East Yorkshire Rainy Day Activities

East Yorkshire on a Rainy Day

To go abroad or to staycation? The big question on every parent and grandparents mind when booking a family holiday. It’s no doubt the weather in the UK is quite unpredictable, but when the sun shines there really is no other place as great to holiday as the home turf. We have beautiful beaches, rolling countryside, country houses like Sledmere, beautiful gardens (Burnby Hall Gardens), and not forgetting our stunning landscaped courtyard and garden with some garden furniture to relax in. However, when the rain pours parents must get more creative to keep the whole gang entertained.

Lucky for you, we have curated a list of indoor activities to keep the whole family entertained…

Beverley

First stop, Beverley. This market town offers a great shopping experience with small boutiques, high street brands such as The White Company, Sweaty Betty, Mountain Warehouse and Crew; and loads of independent and chain restaurants.

While the adults are busy shopping the kids can experience Jump Inc for hours of energetic fun, or visit the Beverley Art Gallery to see Brick Journeys – lots of modes of transport made out of LEGO. Fancy something more educational, take a guided tour of Beverley Minster and visit either the ceiling of the Minster and revel in historic stories over 700 years old, or go all the way to the roof for a view over East Riding. Finally, finish the day with a trip to Parkway Cinema to watch the newest Blockbuster movie with a bucket of popcorn.

William’s Den

There’s loads more to East Yorkshire than Beverley, why not entertain the kids at William’s Den. The indoor and outdoor adventure play area has been designed to let kids imaginations run wild. The indoor space has been crafted to bring the outside in, with a 6m high oak treehouse, a running stream and rainmaker and the forest glade for the best game of hide and seek.

Indoor Exercise

Other great ideas for the kids when it’s raining include; visiting any East Riding Leisure Centre for a swim, or go indoor climbing at RockCity or RockUp in Hull.

Hull

Hull also has The Deep – the world’s only ‘submarium’. There is the Streetlife Museum which takes you through 200 years of Hulls changing High Street and transport modes.

East Coast

You can still visit the beach, just be sure to take your wellies and anorak. Visit Flamborough Head and search for fossils, or learn about the lighthouse at Withernsea on the ground floor or take a guided tour of the Flamborough Lighthouse and learn what life is like working and living in a lighthouse.

Family Time in the Barn

Finally, head back to Kipling House Barn to enjoy a meal together as one big family before finishing by playing one of the many board games we have to offer.
