What to do in Malton
Dubbed ‘The splendidly Georgian gourmet capital of Yorkshire’ by the Sunday Times, the pretty market town of Malton in North Yorkshire is just 23 miles from Kipling House Barn and is well worth a visit, especially if you’re a food lover. It boasts a large number of excellent independent shops and three micro-breweries and champions local food and drink at its annual Food Lovers’ Festival and it monthly food market.
There’s lots to do for non-foodies, too, with Flamingo Land theme park and zoo, Eden Camp modern military and social history museum, Scampston Walled Garden and the famous North Yorkshire Moors steam railway all within a few miles of the town. Malton and neighbouring Norton are known fortheir horse racing connections and there are a number of training stables in the area, with many of them opening up their yards for the annual Festival of Racing in September.
